I am freelance photojournalist and visual storyteller works mostly for independent projects based in Papua, Indonesia. I began to photograph the issue of Papua in 2009. Since mid 2015 I decided to stay in Papua. Now working on a photo story independently on the changing landscape of Papuan life.
My photographic work has been published by international and national media and journals, such as Journal Indonesia, Witness (World Press Photo), The Guardian, Destinasian Indonesia Magazines, National Geographic Indonesia Magazines, Inside Indonesia, Tabloid Jubi, Tirto.id etc., as well as three publications together with other photographer/writer entitled “Diversity”, “Arca” and “Carita Pawitra”. Some publications were under Vembri Waluyas name.
This year I was chosen as one of the emerging photographers from the Southeast Asia and Oceania region in The 6×6 Global Talent Program initiated by World Press Photo. The program highlights six visual storytellers from six global regions in the process of nomination and rolling selection, to highlight talents from around the world and present stories with diverse perspectives.
